I love babies taking a fruit bath. And there is no wrong way to shoot a baby fruit bath session; you can get creative and make it your own. To photograph your own photo session, it’s important to focus on a few things. I am going to share tips for photographing a baby in a fruit bath, shooting the pictures, and recommended fruit that floats.

Shoot a Baby Fruit Bath Session With These Easy Steps:

Safety-My main concern during this shoot was Harper’s safety. At the time of this shoot, she was a little over 6 months old and not completely stable sitting up on her own. I inserted my arm to help prop her up

Supplies-When it comes to supplies, you need fruit, a bathtub, bucket, or a sink and warm water.

Fruit– I had grapefruit slices, lemons slices, orange slices, and strawberries. I’ve seen photos on Pinterest with just strawberries, just lemons, milk and fresh flowers. etc. And for your information, blueberries do not float! Get creative. It was so entertaining to watch Harper taste the lemons and suck the juice out of the strawberries. Diced apples float as well. Remember the term bobbing for apples? Fresh sliced peaches and pears float as well.

Tub-I borrowed this antique bathtub from a good friend but our kitchen sink or a bucket would have worked as well.

Warm Water-Since we were shooting outside, I filled up the tea kettle with boiling hot water and mixed with the hose water. In addition, I filled up a couple of pitchers of hot water to make sure she was comfortable in the bath.

During the Shoot-After you add your fruits, you’re baby will want to start grabbing the fruit and tasting! That Is totally okay! That is where you get the adorable shots. From there, move around and take pictures at all different angles.

Try to keep the shoot less than 30 minutes to keep the water warm. Bring a towel to the bath or sink so you can dry your baby off right after you finish taking pictures.

Miranda found that the most attractive perspective is directly above Harper. She stood on a chair during the shoot.

You can use any good camera and lens that gives you a range of wide to moderate angles of view. Miranda didn’t really use anything to cover her camera because Harper didn’t splash. I recommend wrapping your strap around your arm just to be safe.

Lighting-It is important to take lighting into consideration. Miranda loves shooting outside and it is important to use as much natural light.  We love the outdoors but if you’re using your kitchen sink or a tub, open the windows and let in natural light.

The strawberries were a good contrast to the citrus and I loved watching Harper’s little lips pierce over the top of the juicy red fruit.
